"John Lagale Horton"Johnny Horton, Born At Tyler,Texas April 30, 1925. Son Of Share Cropping Parents, moved Back And Fourth between California often as a migrant fruit picker, but always returned to Rusk,Galatians area in Texas. When Johnny was eleven his mother taught him how to play the guitar while his father was teaching him how to us a gun. After graduating from Galatians High school in 1944, He attended Lon Morris Junior College, It was there he was voted most handsomest. Johnny found work in the mail room of the Selznick studio, It was there he meet his future wife Donna Cook. Johnny was dared to enter a talent contest where he show his fishing talent and sang the eleven Songs he wrote. In late 1948 Johnny was found by Doug Robinson the Fabor records and started his singing career, he arranged songs like Dark Haired Beauty From Cuba, Alley Girl Ways, Back Up Train, Confusion #1, Confusion #2, Down That River Road, Witch Walking Baby, How You Gonna Make It, He Even Sang The Very First Recorded Song Of Shake, Rattle, And Roll. All of the songs with Fabor records were demo songs.During the 1950s is believed that Johnny had stared in two movies with Gary Copper,The story of Will Rogers and The Distant Drums. Farbor Got Him Signed By Cormac Or Known As Abbot, His first song there was Plaid And Calico,Done Rovin',Coal Smoke Valve Oil And Steam, Birds And Butterflies. By mid 1952 ten Horton songs had been issued but none very successful. he moved back to the Hayride to a regular basics, then he was fired by Fabor And Mercury steped in and issued The First Train Heading South, and I Wished For An Angel (But The Devil Sent Me You). Horton was married twice following marriage to Donna ended in divorce. Then after Hank Williams death Johnny then married Billie Jean Jones on September 26, 1953. Johnny Horton recorded a song named Egg Money, Meant So Little To You, Two Red Lips And A Warm Red Wine, Back To My Back Street, Move Down The Line, No True Love. In 1955 Johnny Sang A Song On Stage At The Hayride Called Frankie And Johnnie. he Became A Little More Pouluar But Not Yet Anything To Be Known So He Went To Tillman Franks For Advice Tillman Said "I Just Don't Like The Way You Sing" Johnny Said "Ill Sing Anyway You Want Me To" And He Was Serious. Tillman Dumped Mercury records and joined Columbia records. He first started of with I'm A One Woman Man, Honky Tonk Man, I'm Ready If Your Willin'. Then in 1957 he sang I Got A Hole In My Pirouge, Take Me Like I Am, Sugar Coated Baby, I Don't Like I Did. Then 1958 Came He Recorded The Song Johnny Cash Wrote Called When its Springtime In Alaska which was a hit then in 1959 came his biggest hit yet to stay At Number 1 For 6 Weeks the song was writen by Jimmie Driftwood, he named it "Eigth Of January" Tillman and Johnny renamed it "The Battle Of New Orleans". Then he made another number one hit that Tillman and him wrote by the name of "North To Alaska" which is the theme for John Wayne's Movie 'North To Alaska. Horton's visions of his death got worst, he was thanking all of his friends and family For Being Good To Him. He Also Gave His Guitar A Week Before His Death To A Friend. Horton Had Just Signed A Contract That Lets Him Sing Gossip. He said goodbye to his wife and hugged his kids and got in the Cadillac driving to a show. It Was 2:00 A.M. rainy, dark, and wet when the crashed happened, Horton Was in the crashed vehicle for 40 MINUTES ALIVE, but sadly died on the way to the hospital on November 5, 1960
